From 1997 to 2002 Les starred in and co-wrote the hugely popular children's television show HUBUBB, which ran for five series on BBC1. During this period, he also became a popular variety act on television, making many appearances across the globe. Between 2002 - 2012, he toured extensively worldwide with his own full length theatre show MAKE YOUR BRAINS GO POP! The show successfully crossed cultural boundaries and won him many awards along the way. Closer to home, he's performed numerous times at the Glastonbury and Edinburgh Festivals. In 2014 Les co-starred in THE WORLD CUP FINAL 1966 at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre and in 2015 he starred as the Maitre D in Theatre Damfino's THE TABLE OF DELIGHTS in Bristol & London. Training continued at the Desmond Jones School of Mime in London and in Paris with Phillipe Gaulier (L'École Internationale de Théâtre Jacques Lecoq) and Etienne Decroux. After sharpening his skills on the streets of Europe (Les speaks several European languages) he quickly became popular with his unique blend of mime and metaphysical clowning, joining the “new wave” of alternative comedy with contemporaries Stephen Fry, Hugh Laurie & Harry Enfield. He supported them live in theatres across the UK, while making regular appearances on FRIDAY NIGHT LIVE and MAX HEADROOM. The renowned film Director, Werner Herzog sought Les’s unique talents several times, including the multimedia show VARIETE and as ‘Herr Rothschild’ in his art-house film INVINCIBLE, starring Tim Roth. Les worked on three HARRY POTTER films; The Sorcerer’s Stone, Chamber of Secrets and Prisoner of Azkaban. More recently he voiced the role of ‘Jim Porter’ (Jane's dad ) in the new 3D animated feature of TARZAN and provided the motion-capture movements for the character. Les remains one of the most innovative and accessible physical comics in the world. His original act; the unforgettable stuck suitcase & balloons, the invisible piano, the flying bottle and the inflated rubber-glove head, have influenced several generations of physical comedy performers… a cacophony of comical illusions! |
